Journalism Intern

The Herald has been proudly covering Vermont's White River Valley for more than 150 years. Interns would join our small news staff and dive in getting to know our 16-town community. They'd learn about composition of news stories, get a look inside local government, and meet lots of interesting people as they conduct interviews throughout rural central Vermont.

Aside from assigned stories, interns will develop a longer-term reporting project based on their own interests. Students working toward any major are welcome. Willingness to work with a small group, accept feedback on work, and meet new people is crucial. Access to a vehicle is very helpful to get around the region.

This position is part of a cohort of 12 interns working with organizations that support the White River Valley Community Schools.  Funded by the UVM Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships, free housing for interns will be provided at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT. Interns will participate in a week-long community orientation, weekly intern cohort workshops for professional development, networking, and reflection and a final sharing event on Monday, August 4, 5:30-7 pm.
